Ultrasound Cavitation in sOft Materials
A European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme
What is UCOM?
UCOM is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network; a joint research training and doctoral programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by a partnership of high-profile universities, research institutions, and non-academic organisations that are located in 8 different countries.
UCOM is the acronym of the project “Ultrasound Cavitation in sOft Materials”. It started on 1st October 2018, and it ended on 31st May 2023. The UCOM network is intersectoral and international; it includes academic and non-academic institutions from the EU, the UK, Switzerland, US, Japan and China. The scientists involved in the research project are active in different scientific areas: engineering, physics, mathematics, as well as in medical and biomedical technology.
15 doctoral candidates have been recruited by the research – focused organisations to address topics that have never been studied before. The young researchers developed, improved, and validated new state-of-the-art cavitation models and the interaction with soft materials (e.g., tissues) against both existing and new experimental data. At the same time, they gained knowledge, skills and expertise and created strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide, either in the public or the private sector.
The project is coordinated by CITY, University of London (Prof. Manolis Gavaises).
